I was recently directed to look at the DiskGO Secure GUARDIAN Flash Drive from EDGE Tech. It actually looks like a pretty sweet product. The two key features that they promote about it are it’s durability as well as the hardware based 256-bit AES encryption. Not bad for up to an 8 GB flash drive.

Read and write speeds seem decent at 25 MB / second and 16 MB / second respectively. It’s built for USB 2.0 but backward compatible to USB 1.1. The flash drive also comes with a Lifetime warrenty and free tech support.

Unfortunately for those of us who run Ubuntu Linux or Mac’s, there is no mention of support for operating systems other than Windows 2000+. As I have not actually received one to test, I can’t speak to how it would function on these systems.

You can find more details here on the DiskGO™ Secure GUARDIAN™ Flash Drive product page

I’m sure that all of us have been in traffic at some point and had the desire communicate something to the idiots (or friends) driving behind us. While some may use a certain finger to indicate their feelings, others might prefer a more geeky … er technological approach. Let me introduce the drivemocion, “an illuminating car message sign”. Available for purchase at au-my.com for a mere £13, you can use it to communicate both day and night, displaying a variety of “emoticons” or messages to the people behind you.

” Helps you improve communication with other drivers & express yourself. Fix display module to rear windscreen & use remote control in the front of the car. Battery operated – No Wires – Single and Multiple message options.” – from au-my.com

If you are at all familiar with the spying technology and/or encryption techniques of World War II, you will have heard of the Enigma encryption machine. This machine was used as an encryption device by the German army during WWII and was thought to be uncrackable.

During WWII the German army used Enigma coding machines to encipher most of their radio messages. At the time the Germans were convinced that this machine was unbreakable, but recent history has proven them wrong. For most of the war, the Poles, and later the British and Americans managed to decipher the German messages which is now believed to have shortened the war by some 2 years. – xat.nl

Now, thanks to these folks, you can build your own Enigma coding device. Check it out!

You could pick one up here.

Wow, seems like you buy something new, and almost immediately they come out with an even newer version. A couple months ago, I bought a Canon S2 IS Digital camera, which both my wife and I really like using for our nature photography hobby. And yet, now that I’ve just managed to “break in” the S2, they’ve come out with the S3 IS, which looks even cooler and better.

Actually, the differences between the two aren’t all that extreme. The S3 has 1 more megapixel (bringing it to 6.0), the ability to handle “widescreen” mode (whatever that is), a couple additional scene modes and a slightly larger (2.0-inch) visual display. Unfortunately, it has a slightly slower continuous shooting mode and is slightly heavier.

Features I like about these cameras are the Ultra Zoom (12x with a 4x digital multiplier for a total zooming power of 48x) and the image stabalization. (the slightest breeze feels like an earthquake when you’re zoomed in that much)

I would recommend either the S2 or S3 to anyone looking to get into digital photography, but not quite ready to spend their entire paycheck on a fully-featured digital SLR. (Actually, in my opinion, the S2 and S3 beat most SLR’s hands down… but that’s just me)
