Are you ready for the car of the future? Moller International is in the process of developing what appears to be the world’s first Skycar. Looking like something out of the Jetsons, the M400 Skycar is capable of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), has a top speed of 375 mph, a range of 750 miles, carries 4 people and runs on ethanol. Basically, it’s a flying car that gets 20 miles to the gallon. You can put a deposit on one now.

One Response to “The Skycar – Now Taking Orders!”

I saw a documentary on this thing 2 years ago when it was still under development. I’m actually surprised that it has gone into production so soon!

I know that one of the things that they were planning on building into this vehicle at some point was a GPS-based computer controlled driving. Using GPS or city-road beacons, each car would receive ‘clearance’ to fly along a certain path. A system like that would ensure that no two cars would ever get close enough to collide.

The navigation thing is good in theory, but I really don’t think it’s a good idea. I mean, what if the central traffic-controller computer gets hacked or taken over by terrorists or some other thing that would be good in an action thriller? That would just get ugly. “Pay me a million bagillion dollars or I’ll crash all the cars in the world!” Yeah.

Well, the future has to come sometime. Who knows for sure how it will work? Perhaps people are getting smarter.
